Stitch Guides for Brenda Stofft Designs

Stitch by Stitch in Larchmont is having a Brenda Stofft Designs truck show.  I can hear you call saying, "So what?"   The reason I've mention it is that their shop newsletter has lots of great photos of finished models--and the stitch guide writer who designed them!  You'll see work by Sandy Arthur, Connie Camp, Robin King, Tony Minieri, Needlepoint Now, and Laura Taylor.  Even if you aren't planning on stitching any of Brenda Stofft canvases, this is a fun way to see her designs and admire the talented folks who have stitched them.

Halloween Train (Raymond Crawford and Vicky De Angelis plus

Hooty Owl (Needle Deeva and Robin King)

Day of the Dead Cover for Needlepoint Now (Love You More and Sherry Bray) UPDATED

The next issue of Needlepoint Now magazine will be mailed later this week. It will have this cute Day of the Dead couple and their chicken on the cover.  The canvas is from Love You More and the issue will have the stitch guide from Sherry Bray to recreate this look inside.

Kiersten is A Blonde--OR a Redhead! UPDATED

Needle Deeva Hand Painted Canvases just posted a photo of a Nashville Needleworks ad in Needlepoint Now on their Facebook page.  The advertisement features Needle Deeva's Kiersten with both blonde and red hair!  The shop sells the kit with the stitch guide to have the right shade of flowing tresses for your preference.  The second link shows Kiersten for those who can't access the Facebook link and the third is Nashville Needleworks' online shop.

Susan Portra Stitch Guides

Susan Portra's new website has a section that lists stitch guides she's written that have been published in Needlepoint Now.  Susan is a very talented teacher and along with Brenda Hart and SharonG, one of my stitching heroes.  I just love her stitching style and her ideas!  But unless you are lucky enough to live in California and Florida where she teaches regularly, her classes are too far to travel to.  Published guides from her work are a real treat!

Stitch Guides for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Just Because

A whole slew of new stitch guides have been announced, so I thought I'd do a quick roundup.  Vicky DeAngelis has finished the First Thanksgiving set.  This will be a club offered to multiple shops by Needle Deeva.  Two characters also will be featured in the December 2012 issue of Needlepoint Now magazine, which is beginning to be mailed to subscribers.  Some shops carry extra copies of the magazine if you are curious.  Since monthly clubs and stitch guides are merging, I thought I would mention this here.

Michele at the Bristly Thistle is stitching this gorgeous Alice Peterson design featuring traditional glass Christmas tree ornaments.  I don't know about you, but my parents had similar ornaments on their tree each year, so this one has a special nostalgic pull.  When Michele finishes stitching, you will be able to buy the stitch guide as part of the thread kit for the design from her shop.

The final stitch guides are by Tony Minieri for Needle Deeva again.  The theme isn't holiday related.  Instead, you have a garden with a black cat lurking.  Vicky DeAngelis is stitching it beautifully and showed it off on her blog as well as another Tony Minieri stitch guide for another Needle Deeva canvas, this time a vase of flowers. If you are a Tony fan or just want to stretch your skills, these stitch guides are something to consider.  To order them from Mr. Minieri, take note of the Needle Deeva canvas numbers and email him at stoocozzo@aol.com or call Edwardian Needle at (973) 743-9833, which is his home shop and leave a message for him.

Why You Should Collect Stitch Guides

I collect stitch guides just for this reason--to use the ideas on similar canvases. Not many of us will be lucky enough to find a guide for a canvas very much like our own, but we all can use great backgrounds, hair stitches, a really cool clothing idea, etc. on our own designs.  Stitch guides are done by folks with a lot of experience.  Why not tap into that expertise by collecting guides from folks whose work you admire?

Painted Pony and Eye Candy Stitch Guides

This week I discovered a list of which Painted Pony and which EyeCandy designs have stitch guides.  Painted Pony's guides are written by someone named Susan (no last name) who apparently is also working guides for some of their series.  If anyone has Susan's last name, please let me know.  I'd like to credit her properly.  The design above is he Surfing Star Angel, one of their new canvases.

EyeCandy's guides are written by Susan Allanson in most cases, although I found one by Janet Perry and Ruth Scmuff did a guide for their Counted Puzzle pattern.

I haven't seen guides for these canvases written by either person so I can't give you a review of them.  However, since EyeCandy's seasonal tree series is going to be featured in Needlepoint Now magazine starting with the September-October 2010 issue, you can probably get some idea of their guides if you subscribe to this magazine.  The photo above is EyeCandy's Seasonal Tree for Fall.
