Atlantic Blue posted an interesting article on their blog back in February explaining what a stitch guide is and showcasing some of their favorite stitch guides for their own designs.
It's a good explanation of what basic stitch guides are like. If you are a fan of Atlantic Blue's designers, here are all their currently available guides.

The canvas and guide are only available through Bedecked and Beadazzled, Arlene's distributor. The cover of the guide has a photo of the finished design, which is very nice. By the way, her Sky Stitch is amazing and useful on many backgrounds. Check it out.

I don't know if Melissa's guide covers both sides or not. If you want to stitch both, check with the shop before buying their guide. They can advise you if the guide covers front and back or if not, if you can use the front guide to help choose the back side stitches and threads.
